End of Autumn term

We come to our final full week of the Autumn term and Mrs Sandhu and I would like to say a huge ‘Well done’ to all of 5SG for working so hard this term. We have been really pleased with your progress and know you will continue to work hard this year. Please enjoy some final photos of different events from the past few weeks.

Last Wednesday Year 5 took part in a Fashion Show. They have been learning about clothes and how to use basic French phrases to describe what someone is wearing. They worked in groups to model the clothing and talk about the model’s fashion.

Unfortunately we didn’t have an assembly last week to share the Golden Moment so we celebrated Imogen earning her Golden Moment for ‘patience’.

In English, we learned about Collective nouns and the children researched further collective nouns on ipads. They were keen to share the particularly unusual ones they learned about!

We had a wonderful learning opportunity at the end of last week when the children worked together as fantastic learning buddies to unpick some errors they made in some recent maths assessments.

On Tuesday of this week Year 5 were lucky to be able to go along to the Harpenden Panto – Cinderella. The children loved the experience and there was a lot of laughing during the afternoon!

In English this week the children have been writing letters to Santa, using persuasive language to try and persuade him to bring them presents this Christmas time. Do pop in and read them!

We have a lot more to enjoy before the end of term, including the Christmas Dinner, the KS2 Dance off, our class Christmas party (thank you for all your contributions!), Strictly X Factor and the Santa Fun Run! Have a wonderful family time this Christmas and a very Happy New Year from us both.

Best wishes,
Mrs Gritz and Mrs Sandhu

5SG have had yet another very busy week! Here are some photos of their learning:

The children were working on some routines involving balances, in small groups in gymnastics this week.

In Science the children learned that the size of the air resistance force causes objects to fall at different rates. They experimented, finding out how the number of paper clips affected the time the spinner takes to fall.

In English, the children have been working hard to put together persuasive TV adverts to encourage people to visit 'The Museum of Fun'.

In Computing the children have begun to crack codes (in our cryptography unit). They used semaphore flags to send messages to each other. Then they cracked a code on their whiteboards!

In RE, the children showed role plays to demonstrate different 'waiting' situations as part of our new unit of work 'Hope'. We used the technique of 'freeze frame' to find out their thoughts and what the character in the role play was hoping for.

Finally, congratulations to Finn for winning a special prize in a recent 'Autumn' display held at the town hall.
