Week ending Friday 13th January 2017

Welcome back to another term! Over the past few weeks in music, the children have been exploring movie music from 1920s and 1930s  animated films. They have been discussing the role the music plays as an accompaniment to the pictures and they have used a storyboard to structure sounds and create a variety of sound effects.

In RE we have been learning about inspirational community members as part of our 'Mission' unit. We were delighted to welcome Emma Dalton from the St Albans and District Foodbank, who spoke to us about how and why the Foodbank was set up. The children asked some fantastic questions. She's recently sent me an email saying the following:
"I just wanted to say it was an absolute pleasure to come in and talk with the children today.  They were so interested and enthusiastic."

In Science the children carried out an experiment on absorbency this week. We have been testing different materials to find out which one is the best for mopping up spills.

In topic we have been researching Marco Polo, the most famous traveller along the Silk Road.

In Maths, the children have been working hard to solve problems using decimal places. Please remember we allocate new games on Abacus every week (even if it's not set for homework).

In English we have had lots of fun in WWW (wild wonderful writing) by designing our own mythical creatures to use in our myth writing.
