11th February 2017

What another busy half term. Here are some photos of the brilliant learning that has taken place in 5SG over the past few weeks. Th children conducted an experiment on evaporation with different liquids.

The children have also been learning about thermal insulators and which material keeps liquid hot the longest.

In Geography the class have been learning about the benefits of a fairtrade certified farmer and are keen to buy more fair trade food at home.

In art we have been learning about the technique of weaving. The children created containers using a warp and weft strip of coloured paper.

Last Wednesday we had a fantastic french afternoon. The dining hall transformed itself into a french market and the children visited the different stalls and tried a variety of french foods, using excellent french to communicate!

In English this week, the children completed their fantastic ancient greek myths. Some of them chose to take the story home to type up during half term. Please remember your English books on the first  Monday back.

On Friday we visited two 'punctuation streets' to recap our understanding of different forms of punctuation. The children sang raps and used their reading books to find examples of parentheses.

In Maths we have been consolidating our understanding of shape and measure over the past few weeks and we recapped the use of the column addition method on Thursday and Friday, to add decimal numbers. Some of the class played a brilliant game from Nrich called 'Dicey operations'. They had to try and be very tactical in order to beat their opponent.

Well done to Jack, who received an RE certificate, and Marcus who received a Golden Moment and Writing certificate this past Friday!

Finally, here a few photos of the children glazing their ancient greek clay pots in Art. They were very proud of the final result!

Please remember to bring your PE kits on Mondays and Thursday for PE lessons when you return to school.Have a lovely rest over half term!
